According to data from the Bank of Korea, the average household net worth in South Korea is projected to reach 274.7 million won (approximately 185,600 USD) in 2025, marking an increase of over 9% year-on-year. This growth rate is a significant rise from the 3% recorded in 2024. In 2025, the South Korean stock market performed exceptionally well, with the KOSPI index rising nearly 76% throughout the year, the largest increase since 1999, far exceeding the S&P 500's approximately 17% and the MSCI Asia-Pacific index's approximately 25% gains for the year. The core driver of this historic market performance is the cyclical recovery of the global semiconductor industry, with major players like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix significantly impacting the market with their performance and stock prices. The Chief Strategist for Goldman Sachs in the Asia-Pacific region noted that the end of semiconductor inventory destocking, combined with a new demand cycle driven by artificial intelligence, has propelled the KOSPI index upward.
