MetaMask launches address poisoning attack detection feature

According to Crowdfund Insider, MetaMask has launched an address poisoning attack detection feature to identify scam addresses that are highly similar to addresses with which users have interacted in the past. Address poisoning attacks refer to when attackers send small amounts of tokens to a user's wallet, causing disguised addresses to appear in transaction records, leading users to mistakenly copy and transfer funds later. In recent years, address poisoning attacks have surged. According to security data from Blockaid, over 65.4 million such incidents occurred between January 2025 and February 2026.
The new feature in MetaMask will automatically compare addresses pasted by users with historical interaction addresses. If it detects that the first and last characters are the same but the characters in between are different, it will display a blocking reminder during the transfer process. MetaMask has also improved the way addresses are displayed, showing more characters to reduce the possibility of confusion. This feature is now available on MetaMask Mobile and the browser extension.
