AMD to Reveal MI500 GPU and CPO Roadmap, Optical Interconnects May Benefit the Industry
AMD will hold its Advancing AI event in San Francisco from July 22 to 23, where it is expected to disclose details about the MI500 series GPUs and the scale-up CPO roadmap. If AMD commits to adopting the CPO solution and reveals optical engine suppliers during the event, it will positively impact the entire CPO theme and drive the transformation towards optical interconnects. Jefferies analyst Blayne Curtis anticipates that AMD will collaborate with Astera Labs on UAL and with Broadcom on ESUN, with the key factor being whether AMD shifts to a CPO-based scale-up solution and the choice of optical engine suppliers. Currently, supply chain associations can only be inferred through indirect paths, with GlobalFoundries involved in AMD's MI500 CPO efforts and Sivers being referenced as its laser supplier. If AMD reveals the use of Ayar Labs or GlobalFoundries SCALE as the MI500 CPO optical engine solution, it will benefit Sivers. The MI500 is expected to transition to a native UAL scale-up architecture, supporting 256 GPUs per rack and achieving interconnectivity through optical interconnects. Sivers has been actively positioning itself this year in CPO, pluggable optical modules, and silicon photonics technologies. If AMD's event confirms its indirect entry into the supply chain, it will further validate its strategic logic in the optical interconnect field.
